Climbing Spantik Peak means facing one of the spectacular views in the Karakoram. The peak’s isolated location provides a serene experience, far from crowded tourist spots.
First climbed in 1955, Spantik, or Golden Peak, has attracted mountaineers from around the world. Its unique challenge lies in its combination of steep climbs and changing weather conditions.
The Spantik Base Camp is set amidst the beauty of the Chogolungma Glacier. This camp is the starting point for the trek to Spantik. It offers a comfortable spot for trekkers to acclimatize before the ascent.
Trekkers usually fly to Islamabad and then travel by road to Shigar Valley. From here, the trek to Spantik Base Camp begins. Make sure to pack sleeping bags and other essentials for the cold nights at the camp.
At high altitudes, your comfort is a priority. The base camp provides tents, meals, and support from high-altitude porters and support staff. Power banks and proper gear are necessary for communication and safety during your climb.
The climb to Spantik Peak offers a true test of skill and endurance. As you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding Nanga Parbat and Shigar Valley.
Spantik is often called the Golden Peak due to the sunlight reflecting off its walls, creating a golden hue. It makes the Spantik expedition visually stunning for both climbers and photographers.
The Golden Wall is one of the toughest parts of the climb. It’s essential to make an early start on this section to avoid difficult weather conditions.
At these high altitudes, it’s important to carry travel insurance and necessary climbing equipment. Essential items include sleeping bags, climbing ropes, and crampons. Always stay prepared for unexpected weather conditions.
There are two main routes to Spantik: from the Hunza side and the Skardu side. Both routes offer unique experiences, but the Skardu route is more popular due to its accessibility.
The Spantik Peak Hunza Side Route offers a less crowded trek with views of Chogolungma Glacier and remote villages. This route is ideal for those seeking a quieter expedition.
The Skardu side route is more popular for the Spantik expedition due to its accessibility and well-established trekking paths. Starting from Shigar Valley, this route takes you through scenic landscapes and spectacular views.
For adventurers looking for a different challenge, the Polan Pass Trek offers an exciting alternative. This trek involves crossing high-altitude passes with equally stunning scenery.
The trek to Spantik is challenging but rewarding. You’ll be trekking through glaciers, steep inclines, and rugged terrain, surrounded by some of Pakistan’s highest peaks.
This trek is considered moderately difficult. At high altitudes, the weather can change quickly, so it’s important to be well-prepared.
The best time for the Spantik Peak expedition is between June and September. The weather is more stable, and you can enjoy spectacular views of the Karakoram Range.
Before starting the expedition, ensure all necessary documents and permits are in order. Our team will assist with the paperwork and permits required for climbing Spantik Peak.

Spantik Peak, also known as the “Golden Peak,” is situated in the Karakoram mountain range within the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. It stands at approximately 7,027 meters (23,054 feet) and is located between the Hunza and Skardu valleys. It makes it a popular destination for trekkers and climbers looking for both challenging routes and scenic views.
Spantik Peak is considered one of the more accessible climbs in the Karakoram range, especially for climbers with intermediate-level mountaineering experience. While it doesn’t have the extreme technical challenges of some higher peaks, it still requires good physical fitness, acclimatization, and basic technical skills to safely navigate its snowfields and slopes.
The first Pakistani woman to successfully summit Spantik Peak was Samina Baig, an inspiring climber who reached the top in 2010. Her achievement has been celebrated widely, encouraging more women in Pakistan to pursue high-altitude mountaineering.
