Skardu Hunza and Gilgit Tour: Overview

This luxury tour covers two different axis of Northern Pakistan i.e. Skurdu Valley and Hunza Gilgit Valleys. Hunza is a prehistoric valley that takes us thousands of years back when early humans were living and passing through it on its way to Central Asia and China over the Kilik, Mintaka, Parpik, and Khunjarab passes.

Ganish village means in the local Brushaski language Golden Village is over 1000 years old. The rock inscriptions at Ganaish which is also known as the guest book of Hunza take you some 5000 years back. Remnants of the ancient Silk Road still can be seen clinging to high mountains are prove of it. Some of the main tourist attractions of this valley are six peaks above 7000 meters nowhere in the World surrounding Hunza are Rakaposhi 7788 m, Duanasir 7329 m, Ultar 7388 m, Diran 7266m, Shispare 7611m and Passu Sar 7478 m. The highest mountain in Europe is Mount Elbrus which is 5642 m. Fruits like apricots, apples, mulberries, peaches, and cherries grow in abundance making people of the area healthier and with the longest life span in the World.

Hunza Valley is famous around the World for its multiple attractions. First is the collision point of Continental Plates where the Indian and Eurasian plates collided 55 million years ago at Bidru Kha which is part of Chalt Valley giving rise to the Himalaya and Karakoram Mountain Ranges. Tethys Ocean got trapped in between giving rise to the world’s second-biggest salt mine Khewra stretches some 300 km. The name of Skurdu is derived from the Bailti word which means low ground between high places like Shigar and Satpara. This Skurdu valley is 10 km wide and 40 km long at the junction of two rivers Shigar and Indus at an elevation of 2,500 meters. The town is situated on the bank of the river Indus which bifurcates the Himalayan range from the Karakorum range and gateway to some of the highest mountains of the world.

The name of Skurdu is given in history books of the 16th century as Askardu or Eskerdow. Since the 7th century, Skurdu was part of the Tibetan Empire under Songsten Gampo, and tantric scriptures are found all over Baltistan. In the 9th century, the control came to the Maqpon Dynasty under a Kashmiri prince Ibrahim Shah.
